Content is King and I have Proof

by admin on November 1st, 2006

The ambatch.com seo contest has come to an end, with over a million search results in Google for the contest keyword, “ “.

We’ve seen blackhat participant join, we’ve seen keyword stuffing, we’ve seen programs that generate hundreds of blogs in a split second in order to gain backlinks, however none of that has worked.

It’s been blogs that have dominated the search engine contest, surprise surprise - content is king.

The winner had a blog on Google’s blog platform, Blogger, and managed to post content that somehow, gave him authority. To sum up the results;

1st place: Blog
2nd place: Blog
3rd place: Not a blog
20th place: Keyword stuffing and blog spam

Looks like Google successfully weeded out the bad sites, leading those with real content to the top!

    Hi there,

like to make a few points about your observations.

not at all denying that hard work and generating strong backlinks will always be successful etc.

though in my case about 20th place.. this blog was put up in 5 mins, i spent another 5 mins updating links around the place as you can see from the backlinks

I then spent 2 hours creating links from free authority websites and provided related content to these sites/blogs all of now are PR 4 or 5

So total time for the project under 3 hours

I did plan to put more time and effort into this competition, though when I researched the work needed to get above the top 3 sites for example, i saw I didnt have the time or resources, as we were pretty busy on existing projects and still are.

So I agree that your points are made fairly.

though need to point out, that this site ranked quite well for the little amount of time put into it.
(oh i just remembered i did spend another hour or so putting links to it from SB sites etc)

The site was an experiment to learn from, during the course of the competition, i added
    (a) duplicate content.
    (b) removed it
    (c) fresh content.
    (d) removed it.

and observed the rankings go up and down accordingly, at one point my site dropped to around 150, this was after removing all content.

and as you see its climbed back up to 15 when the competition closed.

So all in all, was a fun contest and I learnt a Lot as im sure did many others
