PageRank Update Underway

by Paul on October 20th, 2005

A new PR update is underway by Google (via Darren). What does this mean? Well not much anymore, but it does give you an indication of how important your site is in search rankings. Remember though that Google’s internal PR is updated a month or two before the public one so you should always see changes ahead of time.

If you are wondering if any of your sites will be going up or down have a look with this tool.

I will fix the code in the morning because that thing is horrendous.

If I spent the time I spend obsessing over page rank actually building content I would have a lot bigger site than I have now. I love seeing the little green bar, it becomes a quasi-religous rite, to worship at the altar of the little green bar.

I hear ya, but seeing how it doesn’t update as often as traffic statistics I don’t think I will ever get addicted to it.

Thanks for the heads up Scrivs, I’ll be keeping an eye on my sites! Hopefully some luck comes my way.

Can only go up from 0, right? *sigh*

Well that’s how I look at it.

Call me a PageRank agnostic. I have done nothing to build the pagerank of my key blogs - yet one I launched less than three months ago has almost as many feedburner daily reads/subscribers as Problogger. How? Content.

I get very little Google traffic (most of my blogs get more from MSN!) but I obsess on the content. When I do move to improve my sites compatibility with Google, good things should follow. If not - I’m free of having to chase the green bar. Content is king.

Sam, if the blog you’re refering to is “SugarBank” then I see why you get so many subscribers. *sniggers*

Man according to that tool I did REALLY well with my sites. Fine Fools got put up to a PR 7 after only a couple of weeks so I am bit hesitant to believe it.

I seem to have hit a wall, and can’t get past a PR5 without throwing money away on high-priced high-PR links.. It’s a bit frustrating, as my competitors are all PR7s, but they’ve got alot more money to throw at the problem.

Jamsi - it’s not SugarBank and I see your point but - even if you look at SugarBank, though it discusses the adult industry it contains not explicit images of any kind. It’s totally work-safe (aside from a video clip from an Angelina Jolie movie I posted yesterday).

If it were an traditional sex-blog I’d see your point.

Actually what I’m doing is harder than most. I’m pushing words about business in a field dominated by people pushing action. Why? Because it’s what I know and I have a firm belief in doing what other people aren’t (a whole pie of your own, even a small one, is usually bigger than a slice of someone elses.)

Now I sound as if I’ve had a sense of humor bypass…

This is confusing. Are we all suddenly PR 6 or higher, while MSN is PR 2?
