9rules Business Model
While the positive comments continue to come in for the 9rules network one question seems to remain among the skeptics and that has to do with the business model. Weblogs, Inc and its clones have made a business of starting blogs up that post daily and are highly targeted. So far the majority of the sites in our network aren’t highly targeted and some of them don’t have ads at all. Obviously this is no way to make money.
While I won’t go into details about the future plans of the network with regards to revenue, I will try my best to encourage a new line of thinking when it comes to business models. Try to answer these questions and maybe you can start to see where we are going with this:
- What would you do with a company that is linked by 100s of sites and seeing that number grow daily?
- What would you do with a brand that is growing in recognition and is able to reach a diverse audience of people?
- Do you really think the real money comes from producing content?
- Are you comfortable with only having one revenue stream (advertising) as your sole source of income?
- If you have plans for future services what would be the best way to promote them?
- What’s the value in having a community of bloggers helping/consulting/partnering one another?
- What’s the value in helping each of them become big names in their own niches?
- Do you think you can blog consistently for the next decade?
I think what intrigues people about the problogging model is that it can be so simple they fail to look beyond its potential.

errrrrrrr, Ryan, don’t you mean 1 size :)
however, that obviously would shaft (no pun intended) a good 90% of the male population.
