Always Check Those Sites
Real-life story.
So this guy, named ‘Paul’, had these websites that were basically Amazon stores. These stores brought him a good amount of money every month. With Christmas coming he expected to see a jump in traffic and sales. He was right. Paul also figured that a week before Christmas and a week (or two) after Christmas sales would be next to zero. He was right again.
However, he didn’t expect the whole month of January to provide zero sales. Crazy things must’ve been happening, but he paid no heed and went about his business. One day he decided to go checkout one of the stores to see if it was working.
It wasn’t.
Panic.
Paul checks another site. Nothing.
None of the Amazon sites were working that were hosted on the *cough*9rules*cough* domain. Can’t make sales when you can’t see the site. Somehow the host of that domain decided to make some changes that greatly effected how the Amazon sites worked. Paul missed a month’s worth of income basically.
Today’s lesson. Always keep tabs on your sites. Even the ones that run themselves. And when you have your own dedicated server don’t be so lazy as to leave sites with other hosts.

Damn you people are fast. I have no idea what he did. I know he moved servers, but I don’t know what settings on the server caused the issues. Didn’t feel like getting into it because I was more upset at myself for letting something like that happen.
3 of the sites have their own domain name now on my server so life is better. I needed an incident like that to give me a nice kick in the ass.

Can’t make sales if no one can see the links to your stores, either.
You should tell Paul to check his choice of unvisited link color against footer color on his big money site.

Ha, when I added those links I thought to myself how impossible they are to see, but figured they were just there for Google and it is so much cooler to have those type of links so Mark can have a comment to write on this site ;-P

You know, I first discovered 9 Rules in December and I clicked on those links and they didn’t work. I was just starting my blogs and wondering how I could get them to generate money. I thought to myself, “How does this guy make all the money he claims to when half his links don’t work?” Then, “This must be easier that I thought!” Glad to see this post - I was beginning to think your claims were a scam to generate traffic.

Yeah lately I have provided a great example of how not to make money on the web :-) Sites are slowly coming back up along with new ones as well.
